Bruche Academy Extension

THIS INFORMATION PAGE WILL BE USED TO SHARE REGULAR UPDATES AND COMMUNICATION REGARDING THE EXTENSION FOR BRUCHE ACADEMY.

We’re delighted that our plans for an all-through school at the Bruche Primary academy site were unanimously approved by councillors at Thursday’s Warrington Borough Council’s Development Management Committee.

We are now looking forward to making a start on clearance work on the site in early 2026 before construction starts.

Our aim is to welcome our first pupils into the school in September 2026. This is an exciting additional offer to families in Warrington, with Bruche Primary Academy developing into Bruche Academy School, the first all-through school in the borough.

Bruche Academy will provide the community with a much-needed boost to secondary school places over the next few years – meeting a demand identified by council plans.

The new building will accommodate 60 Year 7 students on its scheduled opening in September 2026 and will eventually accommodate 300 pupils aged between 2 and 16. The building will include state of the art teaching spaces and sport facilities which will also be available for community use.

We will keep you posted on the development’s progress throughout next year!

July 2025 Update

Our preparations for the transformation of the Bruche Primary Academy site into an all-through school is making good progress, with the planning application now submitted to the local authority.

The application is available to view on the council’s portal here, under reference 2025/00977/FULM.

We expect a decision to be made on our plans in the autumn and that (subject to approval) site clearance would start soon after, with the first senior school taking its first students in autumn 2026.

You’ll be able to follow the progress of these proposals on this website as well as through the local media.

May 2025 Update

Since the public consultation period ended on 2nd March 2025 for the proposed development of Bruche Academy we have been reviewing the feedback and considering the detailed plans. We appreciate the involvement of all those who shared in the consultation and value the time taken to share views.

An extensive process of surveying has been ongoing to provide the information needed to fully inform the development. We are currently seeking a date to make a full planning submission with an updated proposal, and expect a timeline to be confirmed this month. We will share further information when these are ready.

In the meantime, if there are questions or comments please contact the design team via bruche.academy@bakermallett.com.

The formal consultation period has now ended and we will be responding to the comments received. This will then inform our planning application.

In December 2024, we were pleased to announce that at the cabinet meeting of Warrington Borough Council, funding to build a new two-form entry secondary school at the Bruche Primary Academy site was approved. Now we have prepared plans to share details of the new build in a public consultation.

Consultation Launch

From 10th February until 2nd March 2025 we are seeking views from our school and surrounding community on how to transform Bruche Primary Academy School into an All Through School and allowing children to continue their education with us until Year 11.

As you may have read in the local media, the total secondary school population is expected to swell significantly over the next six years, due to the large primary school population moving into secondary schools, migration into Warrington and popularity with families living outside the borough. Therefore, this development is vital to meet the borough’s rapidly expanding need for more secondary school places.

The demolition of Bruche’s derelict infant block will free up the space required for the new two-storey building. As this will be a long term change we have shared plans below.
