Year 1
The Year 1 Team
Year 1 Teacher: Miss Kerrigan (SENDco and Assistant Headteacher)
Teaching Assistants: Miss Gooch
Year 1 is a wonderful adventure, and I am so excited to share your child’s learning journey! Your children will transition onto the National Curriculum this year and explore a range of topics across all subjects. They will have access to continuous provision and participate in lots of enquiry learning.
You will receive a newsletter each term to inform you about our upcoming topics and any key dates or information.
PE Kits: This year PE will be on a Friday morning. Please ensure all PE kit items including footwear are named and that your child has suitable outdoor and indoor clothing and shoes. Trainers are advisable, in addition to pumps. PE kits should be brought into school at the start of each half term and they will be sent home at the end of each half term for a wash.
Reading books and Diaries: This year your child will be given a phonics book to read each week and this will be changed every Thursday. Please ensure you read frequently with your child, reading and discussing the text at least three times a week. There will be lots of praise points given out to those who read four times a week. Please ensure that you make a note in your child’s planner to show that you have read with your child. There are also a number of information and permission pages within the planner. Please ensure that you read through all pages and sign them please.
Snack: The children will have access to fruit every day. In addition to this your child can order toast, milk, apple juice or orange juice every morning at a cost of 30p for toast and 35p for a drink. Please ensure your child brings their money in a sealed envelope with their name on or in a purse/wallet to avoid it getting lost. Your child can also bring their own healthy snack in Year 1 for morning and afternoon break. If you need any ideas for healthy snacks then please do not hesitate to ask.
Homework: This will be given out every Friday and should be completed and sent to school on a Wednesday. There will be one piece of Maths and one piece of Writing work to complete and spellings to learn. We will have a weekly spelling test every Friday.
Junk modelling: We are always in need of items for our creative area. We are grateful for any of the following items; milk bottle tops, small cardboard boxes, egg boxes, toilet roll tubes and bottles.
We are looking forward to a very successful and exciting year in Year 1 with your gorgeous children! Our door is always open if you have any concerns or simply just want to have a chat. Please do not hesitate to pop in after school at 3:20, ring the office to set up a meeting or write in your child’s diary.
